Jakob Wikenstaal is one of the most committed community builders at the intersection of sport and innovation in the Nordics.
He’s the founder of Sportidealisten, the region’s go-to sports job platform and as co-founder of SportsTech Sweden, he builds bridges between federations, startups, and solution providers. As if this was not enough, on the Sport Views Podcast, he explores stories and perspectives in sport you don’t hear anywhere else.
In this micro interview, Jakob shares:

I think it’s the first question we usually ask: What is the first experience that comes to your mind when you think about sports as a kid? That question often brings out so many different scenarios and not necessarily related to the sport they’re involved with today.

Oh wow, the first thing that pops into my head is how streaming has made sports more accessible than ever before. For example, Solidsport (https://www.solidsport.com/) offers a streaming solution that both grassroots and elite sports can use. All you need is a phone with a camera, and through this, local clubs can actually earn money from streaming.
If we think about another type of technology, there’s 1080motion (https://www.1080motion.com/). They’ve developed training machines that make that crucial 1% difference in sports performance. As far as I know, almost all NFL teams, sports universities, and many other major sports organizations in the US use them.

Hmm, that’s a tough one. Perhaps Flexbeam, that’s something new and exciting. It helps athletes recover faster and prepare better before training. It’s like a belt with small pods emitting infrared light that you place on the area you want to treat. You apply it for about 10 minutes, and it supports recovery and performance.

I’ve followed Jakob’s work for quite a while now, across Sportidealisten, SportsTech Sweden, and of course, his Sport Views Podcast.
He’s one of those people whose curiosity and energy ripple through everything he does. Whether he’s shining a spotlight on underrepresented stories or building networks in the Nordic sports tech space, he has a gift for connecting people and ideas.
What stood out most in this interview is his ability to balance grassroots accessibility and high-performance innovation. The tools he highlights — from streaming platforms like Solidsport to performance-enhancing tech like 1080motion and Flexbeam — are shaping the future of sports from the ground up.
For anyone building the next generation of sports infrastructure, there’s a lot to learn from Jakob’s perspective.
