Introduction

Marijan has worked across several professional football clubs and now serves as a Scouting Data Analyst for the first team at 1. FC Nürnberg. His practical experience—merging data systems, improving workflows, and watching countless hours of game tape—exposed one recurring issue: scouting is still too fragmented.

That’s why he’s building ScoutWizz. A new platform that connects scouts, clubs, and players in a unified ecosystem—where quality reports rise to the top, underrepresented scouts get visibility, and clubs can cut through noise to spot real talent.

It’s a practitioner-built platform, grounded in real needs, and driven by a clear vision: make scouting smarter, more open, and more effective for everyone.

ScoutWizz wants to “decentralize scouting”. What does that mean in practice, and what problem in traditional scouting made you realize there needs to be a platform like ScoutWizz?

In practice, this means giving all soccer enthusiasts—from amateur to professional clubs—access to the world of scouting. A place where traditional and modern scouting meet—data and subjective assessments. A space where every voice counts and is visible, where scouts can be recognized by professional organizations for their good work. Many scouts still use notebooks in which they write their player reports by hand, with no way to share these reports or network with other scouts worldwide. On the other hand, clubs often have great difficulty finding qualified and committed staff who would improve their chances of success.

You also work as a Scouting Data Analyst at 1. FC Nürnberg. How has that experience shaped how you think about product features or priorities inside ScoutWizz?

I spent a lot of time integrating different data sources into a single visualization system. In addition, the scouts' reports were written in a third, outdated system that was difficult to filter.

The idea of combining everything into one system came to me immediately—although I'm sure I wasn't the only one with this idea. I was particularly inspired by the fact that I met many potential scouts who had no way of presenting their knowledge in one central location. They paid for expensive courses and training, but were unable to showcase their knowledge. Getting a first real chance is extremely difficult. Player agents sent us links to players on various platforms every day – without a central tool where they could really describe their players and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses.

Clubs are flooded with highlight reels and CVs. How does ScoutWizz help clubs separate hype from signal in player discovery? What makes it the ultimate scouting platform?

Currently, clubs are being offered new solutions from start-ups on a weekly basis that supposedly solve all problems with the help of AI and a few clicks. But ultimately, no club has ever signed a player based solely on event data or AI recommendations. In the end, decisions are always made based on what has been seen on the pitch – i.e., the scouting report. This is not only about the 90 minutes of the game, but also about behavior before and after the game. ScoutWizz offers exactly what clubs really need: simple filtering of relevant information, integration of different data sources, and the ability to design models according to their own needs. The greatest added value lies in the fact that clubs can mark, track, and praise good scout reports—in other words, identify the scouts who stand out for their quality. Clubs and organizations that have access to the reports of dedicated enthusiasts and build a large scouting network will be the most successful in the long term. It is often difficult to obtain truly relevant information, and many talented players play in leagues that are not yet covered by video or event data. ScoutWizz offers precisely these players and scouts a platform that captures subjective assessments and enables them to enter a new era of scouting.

Reflections

What ScoutWizz brings to the table is long overdue.

In scouting, so much good work happens in isolation. Reports are written, insights are gathered but they rarely leave the local environment they were created in. And even if they do, there's little infrastructure for feedback, comparison, or visibility.

This is what makes ScoutWizz interesting. It creates a shared space where scouts can contribute, clubs can explore, and strong work can build a reputation over time. The idea isn’t to replace traditional scouting or data scouting, but to complement both through a community-based platform that helps structure the messy middle.

Scouting has always been about networks and relationships. ScoutWizz is a step toward making that ecosystem more transparent, more scalable, and more inclusive.

Great company to watch!
